about

These songs were recorded during lockdown in May 2020. The songs are about that period of time. The recording process and concept, however, was inspired by the home recordings of Thomas Fraser. He was a fisherman and country singer from Shetland, who made hundreds of home recordings in the 50s and 60s on a similar Grundig tape machine. I've been fortunate enough to have visited his home village, met people who remembered him, including his grandson, who is responsible for digitising all the tapes in the recent past. The sound is primitive and very different from the high production values that most modern music has. I was aiming for that authentic, archive-recording sound, which I think is quite charming.
